How to Pick Your Second Wedding Dress
So you’ve fallen in love for the second time (you lucky lady you!) but your head is spinning with how to host a second wedding! Do you go formal… or elope? (P.S. eloping is SO in right now, see our post here on why). Who do you invite?! What food to serve!? And most importantly - WHAT TO WEAR!? The questions are endless, but fret not BLUSH Bride we’re here to help. Think of us as your second marriage Fairy Godmother (but make it boho ;) In this article we’ll offer up some helpful tips on how to source your second wedding dress to help remove one of those pesky questions from your never ending wedding to-do list! Read on, dear brides:

The best part about hosting a second wedding, is that all bets are off in the dress department, This is your time to be a little more daring and try your hand at a different shape, style and even color! More formal wedding dresses are out and alternative silhouettes are in

  • Wedding Dress Separates: for your second sashay down the aisle, why not divide your dress into two with a skirt and top option. We suggest trying something a little more subtle for the second time around like this more modest wedding seperate set for a simple backyard elopement or this simply timeless skirt & dress set for a civil ceremony - which is giving us big Carrie Bradshaw vibes a la her elopement to Mr. Big.

  • Bridal Jumpsuit: this is for the more daring second time bride! The bridal jumpsuit is a great alternative to a more classic shape, and is a very powerful statement option -- it says “Yeah, I’m getting married again!” We love our Bohemian Butterfly Sleeve Lace Jumpsuit for a countryside micro wedding - paired with some suede cowboy boots and natural hair for the ultimate boho vibes.

  • Evening Gowns/Party Dresses: throw out the idea of a formal wedding dress all together and go for an evening gown silhouette - in either a classic full length or even a shorter style. We love our Off The Shoulder Blush Dress for a seaside fete, or a shorter wrap dress just like the one Chloe Brown wore at her cafe wedding! (Shop this one here for a similar aesthetic).

Color or no color? THAT is the question!
The next big question is… can I wear white… again!? And the answer is YES! Really, you can wear whatever you like! But why conform to the norm!? Now’s your time to SHINE and try something a little more alternative like a champagne, navy or any other flattering color… like, say, even BLACK! Yes, black wedding dresses are totally appropriate. Read The Blush Guide to Black Wedding Dresses for all the details on how to get away with this more daring gown choice.

This isn’t a hard and fast RULE, per se, but typically second time brides opt to omit elaborate beading or over-the-top tulle (but, if that’s your thing: you-do-you-girl!). In place, they’ll incorporate more subtle accessory pieces like a timelessly elegant set of pearl earrings like our Swarovski Pearl Gold Earrings. To dress-up a simpler sheath dress - a pretty lace cape (like our Ivory Lace Bridal Cape) can add a bit of impact and help to make your look feel special for your BIG day!
With these key tricks up your second-wedding-dress-sleeve, we feel you’re well on your way to saying “I DO” (again) to your forever person! Be sure to peruse our Party & Bridesmaids section for even more alternative second time wedding dress options.
