Elise and Nata’s Simply Elegant Micro Wedding

Elise and Nata’s Simply Elegant Micro Wedding

After a mission trip to the Dominican Republic back in 2009, Elise met Nata and their friendship blossomed into romance after years of continuing to visit the village where he lived. It wasn’t until 2015 that the two officially became a couple and after 5 years of dating the two were engaged and decided to get married just 6 months later in a small legal ceremony in the DR. In November 2020, the two lovebirds hosted their formal wedding at Elise’s local parish in her hometown in Canada, to a simply elegant theme of cream and wintery greens … and masks! (Due to current COVID restrictions). The two couldn’t wait to say “I DO” in front of loved ones, and wed in spite of the current state of the world. LOVE TRULY CONQUERS ALL. Congratulations to Elise and Nata! Read on for more micro wedding inspo.

Where are each of you from? How did you meet?
I am from Canada and my husband is from the Dominican Republic. We met back in 2009 when I went on a mission trip with my high school class to his village to build a house for a family in need. I returned to that same village each year for a number of years to carry out my volunteer work, and our friendship blossomed! I eventually moved there permanently in 2013 to continue my mission work. Nata asked me to be his girlfriend many times, but it wasn't until February 2015 that I FINALLY agreed.
How long were you in a relationship before you got engaged and married?
We dated for 5 years before getting engaged, and were married exactly 6 months later in a small, legal ceremony in the Dominican Republic in order for Nata to be allowed back into Canada amid border closures. We had a second wedding in the Catholic Church in Canada with my family in November 2020.
Where did your wedding take place?
Our Canadian wedding was celebrated at our local parish, St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, with some family photos outdoors at a friend's property. We were not able to host a reception due to Covid restrictions, but my family came back to my parents house to witness our first dance as husband and wife, and to grab their food to take home for dinner!
How many guests attended your wedding?
23
Did your wedding have a theme? If yes, what was it? :)
Simply elegant!
What was your wedding color palette?
Cream and wintery greens.
What shoes did you wear ?
The best kind - shoes on sale!!

What is your favorite memory from that day?
Having my whole family present (even in the middle of a pandemic) to witness our union before God.
What is your number one tip for building a happy relationship?
Patience and listening. Take a deep breath and pause before responding.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
No honeymoon plans, right now! The world is a mess, so we're just enjoying our time together in our new apartment.
